Hi everybody,

This week has been a lazy one. I didn’t do much. Because of the dark weather maybe or the life itself, I don’t know. I think we all need these lazy times from time to time so it’s ok:) Let’s begin.

A collage with the pictures I used in this post: 1) Dark grey granny squares 2) Star-shaped and flower-shaped earrings are on the table , drying after stiffening process 3) An extra solid crochet flower (my first experiment with fabric stiffener)

1) Blocking with Paverpol ( Fabric Stiffener)

I realized that wet blocking is not enough for my flower earrings. I began to search for some other ways. I remember that my mother used to use some liquids to harden her crochet lacework. I asked her but she can’t remember what was involved in that liquid. Thanks mom! 🙂 I had to google it. Apparently it can be prepared by mixing some kitchen materials like starch etc. but I couldn’t dare it. I wanted to begin with a ready fabric stiffener as it’s my first time. I bought Paverpol from a craft store (Pipoos) in Amsterdam. Let me explain my experience with Paverpol because I couldn’t find enough information online, I had to try few times to reach to the ideal solidity.

It’s said that you can either sink your crochet work in to this stiffener or you can apply the stiffener with a brush on it. First I tried sinking method (because it would be faster) with a flowers I crocheted. When the piece was dry, it was hard like a stone and the texture was completely different. You could see the stiffener on the fibers of the yarn. I rinsed it with cold and then warm water but nothing changed of course because Paverpol is water resistant. At the end I was very happy that only this flower was wasted.

I ended up with this lesson: Sinking method can work well if the piece is made of very thin yarn and if you want the piece to be very solid. Like making a candle holder with your crochet lacework like this:

2) Crochet Squares

I made some more squares for my future cardigan I told you in Colors of the Week 2 post. I make different stitches in every square from The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs book. At the end I’m gonna join them and make a cardigan for myself.

3) A folder for earrings

I put all my crochet earrings to sell in a folder. I think it’s a good idea to keep them in a good shape:)

That’s it for this week,
Wish you a more productive week:)
Stay colorful,
Husna
